This is one of Lee Child's "Jack Reacher Novels", which I happen to enjoy. In this particular one, Jack finds himself up against Edward Lane, one of the most ruthless killers he has ever met, not to mention Lane's hired help. Lane's wife and step-daughter are missing and Lane wants Reacher to find them and he will pay him one million dollars. Of course it becomes more complicated than that, which is why you should read the book and enjoy the intrigue.
