GUILTY

Title: Guilty
Author: Karen Robards
Jan's Rating: 7

When Kate was 15 yrs. old, living with less-than-desirable foster parents, she and her friends held up a convenience store and a cop was killed. 13 years later, Kate is a single parent of a 9-year old son and working as a prosecuting attorney. However, her past comes back to bite her in the butt and she finds herself being blackmailed, and Kate will do everything she has to do to protect her son and herself. In walks Tom Braga, a sexy homicide detective who is determined to get the truth out of Kate and finds he is falling in love with her. You can pretty well guess the rest of the story, and it is a page-turner in places.

BEYOND REACH

Title: Beyond Reach
Author: Karin Slaughter
Jan's Rating: 9

Karin Slaughter is one of my favorite authors and can keep you turning those pages because you can't wait to see what is going to happen next. Some of Karin's books are centered around a Police Chief (Jeff) and his wife, a Pediatrician named Sara, and this is one of those. A gal named Lena works for Jeff as a Detective she gets herself in a lot of trouble in her hometown so Jeff and Sara go there to help. Excellent story and shocking ending.

LOST & FOUND

Title: Lost & Found
Author: Jacqueline Sheehan
Jan's Rating: 7

Rocky's husband suddenly dies of a heart attack at age 42, leaving Rocky devastated because she performed CPR on him and could not save him. She quit her job, leaves Massachusetts, and ends up on Peak's Island, accepting the job of Animal Control Warden. Then she finds Lloyd, a wonderful sensitive black Labrador who has been shot with an arrow, takes him to the vet to have the arrow removed and that is the beginning of a mutual feeling of love between the two. However, she doesn't let up until she finds who shot the arrow into the dog. This book was a nice change from the murder mysteries I usually read and I enjoyed it very much.

SMOKE SCREEN

Title: Smoke Screen
Author: Sandra Brown
Jan's Rating: 8

Raley Gannon, a firefighter, wakes up one morning to find a dead woman in bed with him but the PD cannot prove Raley killed the woman. Five years later, newswoman Britt Shelley wakes up to find herself in bed with Jay Burgess, a Charleston PD detective, also dead, but Britt has no idea how she got there. Raley Gannon reads about Britt in the newspaper and starts to wonder if the two are connected. He tells Britt what he suspects and the two of them spend the rest of the book trying to prove they are innocent and someone else is guilty of murder, and that someone is trying to kill them. It was a good story but a big long.

TAILSPIN

Title: Tailspin
Author Catherine Coulter
Rating: 9

This book is one of Catherine Coulter's FBI thrillers, which are my favorite. In Tailspin, FBI Special Agent Jackson Crowne is flying renowned psychiatrist Dr. Timothy MacLean back to Washington DC to try to protect him but they don't make it that far. It seems that Dr. MacLean is getting a form of dimentia and has been telling secrets about his patients, so someone wants him dead. Sherlock and Savich arrive to help Crowne solve the mystery, and of course, they always add their own flavor to the book. Really enjoyed this one.

FEARLESS FOURTEEN

Book: Fearless Fourteen
Author: Janet Evanovich
Jan's Rating: 10

If you are a fan of the Stephanie Plum series of books by Janet Evanovich, you will love this one! I think it is my favorite thus far. Joe Morelli's cousin has been in prison for several years for committing armed robbery and stealing $9 million. He is out of prison now and wants to find his money. He buried the key in Aunt Rose's house, which is now Joe Morelli's house. The word gets out that the money might be hidden at Joe's so everyone is digging in Joe's backyard, including Grandma Mazur. Don't want to tell you anymore and spoil it for you but it is a good read.

CHILL OF FEAR

Author: Kay Hooper
Jan's Rating: 5

I usually like Hooper's "Bishop/Special Crimes Unit" novels, and I do believe in mediums, etc., but this one was over the top, even for me. Was glad when it was over.
